AAMA  Specifications

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) publishes voluntary specifications, performance requirements, and test procedures for coatings on aluminum extrusions and panels. Coatings are rated for either AAMA 2603 good performance, AAMA 2604 high performance, or AAMA 2605 superior performance. These ratings assist the architect, owner, and contractor to specify and obtain factory applied coatings which will perform to the desired requirements in areas such as film integrity, exterior weather resistance, and general appearance over many years. Kroma Finishing is compliant with all relevant AAMA specifications.

AAMA 2603
AAMA 2603 is the specification for pigmented coatings. Typically, these coatings are used as an interior specification where color retention is not required. These paints are less expensive but have poor resistance to color fading and chalking.

AAMA 2604
AAMA 2604 is the specification for high performance coating used in high-traffic areas such as storefronts or doors. These paints provide good color and gloss retention, good hardness, and abrasion resistance.

AAMA 2605
AAMA 2605 is the specification for superior performance used for monumental architectural projects. These paints exhibit outstanding resistance to humidity, color change, chalk, gloss loss and chemicals.
